About the Book:
All the papers in this volume have been revised and expanded since their initial presentation at the Canadian Bar Association’s annual competition law conference held in September 1997. Recognizing that the quality of the papers presented at the annual conference deserve wider circulation than simply to the attendees of the conference, this is the first time that they are published separately. As the title of the publication indicates, the papers are forward looking, considering themes likely to inform and influence competition law - both in Canada and elsewhere - into the 21st Century. In summary, the papers found in this volume provide a snapshot of Canadian competition law on the cusp of the millennium. Addressing such areas as Marketing, Mergers and Acquisitions, Intellectual Property, Advertising, Cross Border Mergers and Joint Ventures; Competition Law for the 21st Century is a must for the competition/antitrust specialist and non-specialist alike. For those who practice or study competition law in general - and Canadian in particular - this volume will provide a convenient reference point, not only as to issues for the next century, but also as an illustration of how far the law and thinking has come in just over a decade since Canada obtained a truly modern antirust statute.
