RECENT DEVELOPMENT OF COMPETITION
LAW AND POLICY IN JAPAN
Akinori YamadaH
I. INTRODUCTION
This year, the Antimonopoly Act ("AMA")1 and Fair Trade Commission of
Japan ("JFTC") celebrate their 50th anniversary. We held some ceremonies
and events,2 and will be hosting an international symposium on competition
law and policy in December in Tokyo. It is a precious opportunity for the
author to introduce recent developments of the AMA and the JFTC to the
distinguished attendants of the Fordham Corporate Law Institute conference
in this memorial year.
II. RECENT DEVELOPMENTS OF COMPETITION POLICY IN JAPAN
Competition policy has become most important among the economic
policies. While the Government of Japan has repeatedly announced that it
will further promote competition policy actively, the JFTC is committed to
implement competition policy to a full extent.
