MR. VICTOR: Thank you, Barry. It’s nice to be back again.
As I am desirous of giving the panelists the most time possible for
speaking, very quickly let me just say we have a terrific group. We have the
head of the Antitrust Division, Charles James; the head of DG Competition,
Alex Schaub; and from Lisbon, Luis Antunes; and former Assistant Attorney
General from Howrey Simon, Jim Rill. All these people are known to you.
We are going to speak again about U.S. and European international
antitrust and competition policy.
Before we get to Luis, just one comment. Charles mentioned dawn raids.
We didn’t have them in the past. We have more today in the nature of FBI
raids.
The last dawn raid I was involved in, the only person it was a dawn raid
for was me. Over in Europe, the German police showed up with authorities
from the competition people around 10:00 o’clock in the morning, and they
chatted for awhile and did this and did that, and then I get the call at 5:00
o’clock in the morning. So much for dawn raids.
Luis.
MR. ANTUNES: Thank you very much.
First of all, I would like to say that it is both a great pleasure and a great
honor to comment on such distinguished speakers, and it is also a great
pleasure to be once again at the Fordham Antitrust Conference.
